When you're having fun - you burn calories. It's as simple as that. But have you ever wondered exactly how many calories? To answer this question, we were asked to create a machine that would be able to calculate the amount of calories burnt by the audience members in Coca Cola's summer music events, based on their body movements.
The calculation was based on motion-detection. Our system analyzed the live video in real time, to determine the number of people in the crowd and the rapidity of the movements. The faster the crowd moved – the more calories they have burned. Infra-red cameras were used to make the system operational in darker venues such as night clubs. In addition to the software development, Tech Marketing also delivered a complete hardware solution for this project, including servers and a network infrastructure. The hardware has been tested in different field conditions in order to calibrate it with the software, aiming to achieve maximum measurement accuracy.
The overall reaction was extremely positive. Millions of calories were burnt this summer – and we were there on the dance floor to count them all! Our staff was invited to Romania time and time again to operate the system in various music events. No wonder this is one of our favorite projects!
