Yes-Planet is an Israeli chain of cinema multiplexes and entertainment centers.
The idea behind the project was to associate' Yes-Planet' with the Oscar awards ceremony's core value, which is all about celebrating great movies.
This promotional activity sent the movie-goers on a scavenger hunt. The goal was to find and collect hidden images of the Oscar statue, which were scattered around the complex and online on Yes-Planet's website and Facebook page. The 'collection' was carried out by scanning QR codes – each leading to a different trivia question in the web-application we have created. This application was also used for exchanging the accumulated points into actual prizes.
Since mobile devices played a major part in this activity, much effort was made to provide the best mobile viewing experience. Another challenge was keeping track of each player’s accumulated Oscar statues and points balance - This aspect was established using Facebook connect.
This activity was unique in the sense it wasn't limited to the online realm, and had presence in the physical venue as well, using the Smartphone as a mediator. The activity required each participant to "like" the company's Facebook page, resulting in almost 9000 new followers for the page and over 15,000 QR codes scanned in total.
